Biography

Media Studies scholar, Linda Besigiroha, is a German citizenship holder of Ugandan origin. Her Ph.D. approached gender in contemporary Uganda through the lenses of humour and the comedy genre. Her use of a tool of gender competency heavily rests on bell hook’s ideas of mutuality and ‘homeplace’ together with Brazilian educator Paulo Freire’s concepts of critical pedagogy. She is currently working out a Postdoc theme centering on a subject that has long been close to her heart: mental health discourse in the media in Africa. At the GDO, Ms. Besigiroha conducts research, administrative assistance, and deputizes for the GDO Director.
