Workshop: L'Atlantique noir revisité

In the context of the research project « L’Atlantique noir revisité – sites africains et sud-américains classés au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO et « espaces occultés » de la mémoire performative », the workshop entitled « Mémoires multiples: liaisons, ruptures, oublis. Approches pluri- et interdisciplinaires à des constructions des mémoires trans-atlantiques » was co-organized with a group of colleagues at the UCAD.

It took place from 28.-30.03.22 with participants from Bissau, Dakar, Bayreuth, Salvador da Bahia and Ouidah bringing together various disciplinary approaches (philosophy, history, arts, literature, geography) sharing a number of concepts that were at the basis of the discussions (like « vernacular museums », «transition mémorielle endogène”, “mémoire-trace », “in/visibility”, materiality of memories, performativity, mnemotechnical media). Converging points were the concepts as well as some regional foci – Cacheu, Dakar, Ouidah – and the overlapping memories of official memories with local and oral memories as well as the revelation of hidden and suppressed memories.

The contributions will be published in a book with chapters that will also bring in references between the various works.
