An international colloquium on Memories and survivals of the transatlantic slave trade in Africa, Europe, the West Indies and the Caribbean and other territories of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans" was held on October 20-21, 2022 in Ouidah, Benin.

This colloquium is the final phase of a project that shares the same name (http://www.memoiresetsurvivances.com/), which was led by NGO “Afrique Décide” based in Ouidah, Benin. The symposium brought together a diverse group of people, including researchers, artists, and other actors, who participated in various activities such as communications, documentary film screenings, debates, testimonies, heritage and tourist visits.
The Black Atlantic Revisited project was actively involved in the supervisory committee and contributed to the scientific discussions. The added value of this colloquium lies in the fact that it provided a platform for individuals from different disciplines and continents to come together in Ouidah, a city that has a deeply traumatic history related to the continent and its diaspora.
Apart from the proceedings of the colloquium, which will compile the contributions presented during the 2-day event, a significant resolution was reached in favour of the establishment of a master's degree program on the topic of the slave trade memory. This resolution is expected to broaden the scope of research on the memory and survivals of the slave trade in Ouidah, Africa, and the world.
