Since 2021, the film and discussion series AfriKaleidoskop has provided an important platform to address questions of everyday life and experiences of Afro-Germans and Africans in Germany. Following the successful events in 2021 and 2022 with Mo Asumang, which received enthusiastic feedback despite the pandemic, we are delighted to announce the third edition in November 2025 in Bayreuth. The focus lies on University students, pupils, and teachers in Bayreuth. In cooperation with schools (MWG, FOSBOS, Altstadtschule), discussion rounds are also planned outside the main program.

We are honored to once again welcome the renowned filmmaker, activist, and recipient of the German Order of Merit (2019), Mo Asumang, for a double event:
  

• 11 November 2025, 6 pm (tbc) Film Screening and scholarly discussion of her award-winning film Mo und die Arier at the FZA, Campus Uni Bayreuth, open also to students, teachers and the broader public

• 12 November 2025, 9 am: Film screening, Mo und die Arier (on Campus or Cineplex tbd) followed by a discussion round with pupils and teachers.

Through these events, AfriKaleidoskop aims to create spaces for dialogue on racism, diversity, and social responsibility, continuing the strong tradition of critical reflection and open exchange.

Mo Asumang

Eine kurze Bio: Mo Asumang ist eine deutsche Filmemacherin, Autorin und Moderatorin mit ghanaisch-deutschen Wurzeln. Bekannt wurde sie durch ihren vielfach ausgezeichneten Dokumentarfilm Die Arier, in dem sie mutig das direkte Gespräch mit Neonazis und Rassisten sucht. In ihrer Arbeit beschäftigt sie sich intensiv mit den Themen Rassismus, Identität und gesellschaftlichem Zusammenhalt und steht mit ihrer Stimme für Zivilcourage, Aufklärung und offenen Dialog. Als Gründerin des Vereins Mo:Lab e.V. setzt sie sich für eine starke Demokratie durch Dialog, Herz und Haltung ein, entwickelt Formate und DialobBotschafter:innen Workshops zur dialogorientierten Antidiskriminierungsarbeit, um Spaltungstendenzen in der Gesellschaft entgegenzuwirken. Ein besonders innovatives Projekt ist die „MotzBude“ – ein geschützter Raum, in dem Menschen ihren Frust äußern können und im Austausch mit Dialog-Botschafter:innen neue Perspektiven entdecken.

A short bio: Mo Asumang is a German filmmaker, author, and presenter with Ghanaian-German roots. She became well-known through her award-winning documentary The Aryans, in which she courageously engages directly with neo-Nazis and racists. Her work focuses intensely on issues of racism, identity, and social cohesion, and she uses her voice to advocate for civil courage, education, and open dialogue. As the founder of the association Mo:Lab e.V., she promotes a strong democracy through dialogue, empathy, and principled action. She develops formats and Dialogue Ambassador workshops for dialog-oriented anti-discrimination work to counteract societal polarization. A particularly innovative project is the MotzBude—a safe space where people can express their frustrations and, through exchange with Dialogue Ambassadors, discover new perspectives.

Zum Thema Dialog sagt Mo:

Dialog ist DIE wichtige Säule, um das Auseinanderdriften zu stoppen, und aktuell die Bedrohung der Demokratie durch viele Antidemokraten am Rand und in der Mitte aufzuhalten. Dazu haben wir das #Dialogbotschafter*in Projekt und Workshop mit meinen Verein #MoLab e.V. initiiert, der von der Uni Bielefeld (Prof. Zick) bestens evaluiert ist. Wir stärken die Zivilgesellschaft, empowern, stärken Resilienz und bringen ihnen an meinem Vorbild mit meinen Filmen #DieArier bei, auch mit Menschen zu sprechen die eine andere, auch demokratiefeindliche Meinungen und Verhalten an den Tag legen, und das tun unsere #Dialobbotschafter*innen dann überall, am Arbeitsplatz, Schule, Verein, Kommunen und zu Hause. Bisher habe ich das nie gesagt, aber ich denke die Demokratie ist in Gefahr.

On the topic of dialogue, she says:

Dialogue is THE crucial pillar to prevent societal drift apart and to counter the current threats to democracy posed by many anti-democratic forces both at the margins and in the center. To this end, we initiated the #DialogueAmbassador project and workshops with my association #MoLab e.V., which has been excellently evaluated by Bielefeld University (Prof. Zick). We strengthen civil society, empower people, build resilience, and, through my example and my films like The Aryans, teach them to engage even with people who hold opposing, sometimes anti-democratic views and behaviors. Our #DialogueAmbassadors then continue this work everywhere—at workplaces, schools, associations, municipalities, and at home. I have never said this publicly before, but I believe democracy is in danger.
