Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies
Founded in 2012, the Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies is a centre for interdisciplinary research at the University of Bayreuth. Since 2019, it has been an integral part of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, fostering international academic exchange and collaboration across disciplinary and geographical boundaries.
At the heart of the Academy's activities is its Fellowship Programme, which brings together researchers from different disciplines, countries and career stages, with a particular emphasis on scholars based in Africa. Through research stays, lectures, workshops and collaborative activities, international fellows contribute their perspectives and expertise to the Cluster's research agenda. The programme also includes opportunities for artists, encouraging dialogue between academic research and artistic practice.
By connecting scholars and artists from across the globe, the Bayreuth Academy plays an important role in advancing the Cluster's commitment to reconfiguring African Studies. It provides a space for interdisciplinary exchange, new research perspectives and collaborative approaches to knowledge production.
