Supporting Early Career Researchers is a core objective of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence - Reconfiguring African Studies.

The Portfolio Early Career & Equal Opportunity, EC & EO, of the cluster is headed by Vice Dean EC & EO Prof Dr Thoko Kaime. It coordinates career development, training, mobility, networking, and facilitates learning and teaching measures across all five locations of the Cluster. These measures are compiled in the Cluster’s training APPS (link to the figure of the CLICC site), which combine and offer Academic, Personal, Professional and Specified competence training.

At the University of Bayreuth, Germany, doctoral education is primarily provided through the framework of the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies, BIGSAS, headed by Prof Dr. Thoko Kaime. He is supported by the Deputy Head of BIGSAS, Prof Dr Serawit Bekele Debele and coordinated by Dr Phyo Kay Kine.

In close collaboration with the academic coordinator of the portfolio EC & EO, Dr Christine Scherer, interdisciplinary structured doctoral training is offered locally and internationally based on the multidisciplinary field of the Cluster’s network.

Across the five Africa Multiple Research Centres (AMRCs), the Cluster International Career Centre, CLICC, connects and joints Early Career activities. CLICC promotes a shared curriculum calendar, facilitates joint learning, mutual exchange, and professional development through collaboration across borders and continents, and within an international network.
