BIGSAS Journalist Award
The BIGSAS Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies once again awards the BIGSAS Journalist Award for exceptional journalism on Africa in German speaking media. The Award recognizes outstanding journalists whose works break with existing stereotypes and go beyond the often questionable picture that is portrayed when it comes to Africa.
The prize is endowed with 4.000 Euros in total all of which funded by the Universitätsverein Bayreuth e.V.
The prize is awarded by an international jury consisting of BIGSAS alumni. The members of the jury work in various contexts of science, society, economy and politics – many of them work on the African continent. Presiding juror is the Africa scholar and former president of the University of Bayreuth Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Helmut Ruppert.
Eligible to apply are pieces of work (features and articles) that were published in the years 2017 and 2018 in German speaking print and online media.
Entry deadline for the BIGSAS Journalist Award was 20 July 2019.
The Award ceremony will be held on 29 October 2019, 6 p.m.
