Factory of Ideas Doctoral School 2026

The Factory of Ideas Doctoral School 2026, hosted by the Moi University African Multiple Research Centre, brings together up to 40 PhD candidates from Africa, Latin America and Europe. This year's theme, “Worldmaking at the Digital Threshold: Media, Memory, and Cultural Futures in Times of (De)globalization”, focuses on contemporary transformations in media, technologies and cultural production.

The 2026 Doctoral School continues a long standing tradition of international academic exchange. Founded in Brazil in 1998, the Factory of Ideas has developed into an established international doctoral school in Ethnic and African Studies. Traditionally based at the Federal University of Bahia in Salvador, it has increasingly extended its activities beyond Brazil and is now holding its 26th edition in Eldoret, Kenya.

Through keynote lectures, doctoral workshops, paper clinics, methodology laboratories and creative sessions, participants will explore questions around digital media, memory, cultural futures and new forms of worldmaking. The Doctoral School places particular emphasis on interdisciplinary exchange and on South South and South North collaboration.

The Factory of Ideas 2026 is organised by the Cluster of Excellence's AMRC at Moi University in collaboration with the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil, and the University of Bayreuth, Germany.
