Jean Pierre JOSÉPHINE, alias Jozéfinn', was exposed to a wide variety of musical styles from an early age: local genres such as sega and maloya, as well as contemporary music (jazz, rock and pop from the 1970s, soul, traditional music from the Indian Ocean and elsewhere).
In 1988, he moved to Paris, where he trained in orchestration and jazz improvisation, while studying classical guitar under the Spanish master Alberto Ponce. This versatile training shaped his original polyphonic style, perfectly suited to Indo-Oceanic music and numerous collaborations with musicians from around the world.
Leader of several projects, he founded Jozéfinn’, whose unique Indo-Oceanic “world jazz” (album Mascamad, 2006) has established itself as a benchmark of the genre. Numerous inspiring collaborations followed with artists such as the late French guitarist Sylvain Luc and many others. His work has also been praised in the specialist press Guitarist Acoustic.
To date, he has released six albums: Mascamad (2006), Trapdanza (2015): ChinoRun (2018), Santié mon Rasine (2019), Karousèl Spirit (2022 and winner of a SACEM award in 2023), and Zarlor nout Mizik (2022). Jozéfinn' was also featured on the Jazz Rényon 2024 compilation, which brings together the best local jazz productions. His seventh album, Fandamane, was released in April 2025. This new opus, released on the Spanish label Protomaterial Records, is even deeper, more powerful, and more unifying than ever. He is a composer, artistic director, and guitarist for other artists' projects. His creations extend to theater, poetry, and dance. In November 2023, he received a SACEM award in recognition of his exceptional career. The album “The Best of Jozéfinn'” was released in 2024 by JazzRenyon Distribution to mark this milestone.
